It may be for a practical purpose or a highly creative one such as an object of art.   At Ruby Road Resale, we have seen many items that people have bought for the purpose of repurposing and explaining to us what new idea they would use the item for. We found that inspiring in many ways and wanted to see what you, the reader, thought about this subject.  An artist’s repurposing of a wrought iron chair, painted and seat removed. A beautiful, mosaic designed pot placed inside the seat area. Outstanding!

   Have you ever been browsing at a thrift store, flea market or yard sale and have come across a piece of old furniture that captures your eye, but you hesitated to purchase it because of the restoration that it would entail? Oftentimes, keeping it in its shabby condition can be a plus, depending upon your decor, but if you want to restore it, where do you begin?  With the internet you may find so many different resources to help and then end up being discouraged with the time that it involves. We “Ruby Roadies” were talking about our own collections of broken jewelry pieces, gems and such, that end up in the bottom of our jewelry boxes. What do we do with them? Every so often we clean out the jewelry box and toss away the “one-er” earrings or loose, costume gem-stones.  What we were looking for was a unique way of recycling them.

 Well…one day, one of the “Roadies” was looking at a vendor booth with crafting items in the Vendor Mall area of our store and noticed a plethora of MUSLIN HENS sitting on one shelf.                                                                                                                                                   She said, “What if I take one hen, throw it into the pot, mix in some broken, jewelry gems and opaque-fabric pens for juicy color?” After adding some heat with the glue gun, she waited for it to simmer. Her Ruby Road colleagues were clamoring, “Is it soup yet?” She said, “Indeed, it is!” Offering up to them this delightful, recycling recipe.
